At White Pony Express, our favorite word has always been ‘yes!’ We say yes to all fresh, healthy food donations, and we are working to say yes to the dozens of nonprofits on our waitlist requesting weekly food deliveries. We will continue to work toward ‘yes!’ but are undeniably troubled by recent reductions in government funding, which impact us deeply and directly. Federal funding represents nearly one third of WPE’s budget in 2025.
Our solution: Boldly step into the uncertainty knowing this work is what we were built for—The WPE team will not rest until we’ve done all we can to end food and nutrition insecurity.
White Pony Express is vital because 1 in 5 people in our community faces hunger and the average cost per meal is the highest it’s been in 20 years. We know that only 2% of surplus food currently gets donated, which provides massive opportunities to scale our service model and—ultimately—provide access to healthy food for ALL.
For these reasons we intend to double down, seeking out new funding sources and creating local partnerships and collaborations that protect and nourish our most vulnerable neighbors. The White Pony Express motto: ‘all of us taking care of all of us’ is the only way forward—neighbor helping neighbor.
Challenges and opposition often present opportunities to come together in solidarity to address local needs with a shared commitment to a thriving community. Together, through collective action and community support, we will turn surplus food into a valuable resource, nourish our communities, protect the planet, and create a healthier, more sustainable future for everyone.
