By the end of the school pantry, every table was empty. Hundreds of pounds of fresh food had gone home with 25 families, students, and teachers who needed it.
Just hours earlier, students at this Pleasant Hill school had helped unpack the delivery, filling tables with bright green broccoli, red apples, fresh sandwiches, bagels, strawberries, and more.
“My favorite thing I got today is probably the bagels and strawberries,” one student told us. “I am going to have those for breakfast.”
At the center of it all was Betsy, a teacher’s aide and longtime White Pony Express volunteer. She knows families by name and understands what foods will help most.
Betsy showed us how every item finds a purpose. Produce becomes school snacks. Sandwiches go into the freezer so students can heat them at home. Some school staff also rely on the pantry to help feed their families.
“The food they get from White Pony Express is food they would not have otherwise,” Betsy said. “They would have to go without.”
For one parent whose son has celiac disease, the specialized foods White Pony Express provides would otherwise be out of reach. Another shared how her foster child looks forward to discovering a new vegetable each week.
This is what your gift looks like: a child excited about tomorrow’s breakfast, a family bringing home food they can safely eat, and fresh groceries delivered with love every week.
Thank you to everyone who supported our School Pantry Campaign. Because of you, weekly deliveries continue reaching all 23 White Pony Express school pantries throughout the year.
