For years, WPE’s volunteer program has been held together by one person — our Volunteer Coordinator Mandy — who built and sustained a community of 2,000 volunteers with care, grace, and a resourcefulness that has embodied our spirit at every turn.
Now, as WPE grows, Mandy has a partner.
Angie Hoover joins us as Volunteer Engagement Manager, bringing three decades of finance experience and a hard-earned reputation for sharp organization, clear communication, and a genuine gift for building environments where people feel seen, heard, and valued. She came to us first as a volunteer and what she found changed her direction entirely.
Her second week on the job offered a moment she hasn’t forgotten. A senior couple arrived with frozen meals, fresh fruit, and beverages packed in an ice-filled cooler for neighbors they’d never meet. “They could have easily thrown the food away,” Angie says. “Instead, they chose generosity. To me, that is kindness in its purest form.” She sent them home with pastries and a flower bouquet. The woman teared up at the flowers.
That’s the spirit Angie brings to this role. Together, she and Mandy will keep building what makes WPE’s volunteer community one of a kind.
Fair warning: a walk downtown with Angie means guaranteed stops to pet every dog along the way.
