Love in Action—Food in Motion

As the cost of living rises and food insecurity grows, thousands of local families face impossible choices—paying rent and bills or putting food on the table. Right now, one in six Americans depends on food donations, grocery prices sit 30% above pre-pandemic levels, and benefit reductions are squeezing Contra Costa County even harder. That’s why White Pony Express (WPE) has launched its year-end campaign, Food in Motion, Love in Action, to address the growing need and deliver more fresh, healthy food.

America throws away nearly 40% of the food it produces—enough to erase hunger many times over. WPE runs seven days a week to make sure good food never goes to waste. Every day, our team recovers an average of 14,000 pounds of beautiful, nutritious food, volunteers custom-sort it, and WPE delivers it within hours to 110 partner nonprofits serving thousands of neighbors across Contra Costa County.

This year, WPE has stepped up: we have delivered 25% more fresh food and increased our volunteer base by nearly 40%. But the need still outpaces our capacity—54 nonprofits are on our waitlist for free, fresh weekly food deliveries.

Your support keeps families nourished with dignity, prevents good food—and thousands of tons of GHG emissions—from being wasted, and provides healthy meals to 130,000 people each year. In the words of WPE’s Founder, Dr. Carol Weyland Conner: “At its core, this is a work of love. There is nothing love cannot achieve, and nothing it cannot sacrifice.”

We invite you to help love move at the speed of need: [Donate], [Volunteer], [Host a food drive], and [Share this with a friend].
