Here’s something we believe wholeheartedly at White Pony Express: love only gives its best. That’s not a slogan — it’s a standard. It’s why, when we recover food, we’re not just moving boxes. We’re making a promise.
And some of our favorite promise-keepers? The Farmers Markets.
Every week, WPE volunteers fan out across Contra Costa County — to Martinez, Moraga, Rossmoor, Shadelands, Todos Santos, and Walnut Creek — to collect what local growers have harvested with care and couldn’t sell that day. Leafy greens still cool from the morning air. Seasonal fruits at the peak of their sweetness. The kind of produce you’d proudly set on your own family table.
Within hours, that same harvest is on its way to our nonprofit partner agencies and from there, to neighbors who deserve nothing less than the best. Last year, more than half of everything WPE delivered was fresh, nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables. That’s not an accident. That’s a choice we make every day.
Local farmers pour themselves into what they grow. It matters to us that their work nourishes people, not landfills. This is what partnership looks like — growers, volunteers, and supporters weaving together something none of us could do alone.
Want in? We’d love to have you join us at the markets. Reach out to Luisa Iniguez at luisainiguez@whiteponyexpress.org — the tomatoes are waiting.
