Congressional Award Winners

This year, White Pony Express coordinated the process for our youth volunteers to be formally recognized by the Office of Senator Grayson for their contributions—seven of our youth were honored as recipients.

Our high school and college seniors serve as daily reminders of the power of youth voices and activism. They are eager to serve—to do something meaningful—and discover that their efforts not only fight hunger and food waste, but also leave them feeling fulfilled and provide an example for friends and family members to emulate.

For these students, the most memorable moments come from working side by side with our community of volunteers—whether it’s transforming a hectic day into a smooth, coordinated effort, or realizing how much can be accomplished when everyone pitches in together.

As high school senior Hayden Lee shared, “I know that every box I help pack with fresh, nutritious groceries means one more family that does not have to worry about their next meal, and that is an incredible feeling.”

Through their service, our students gain valuable lessons about food insecurity, teamwork, and consistency. They come to see that even the smallest contributions add up to something far greater, and that being part of White Pony Express means joining a caring, purpose-driven team committed to our one human family.

Recent Cal graduate Neel Patel reflects, “As a result of my time at WPE, I was able to truly understand the magnitude of the issue of food insecurity.”

Above all, students describe their time at White Pony Express as rewarding and impactful—words that reflect not only the joy of giving but also the personal growth, awareness, and sense of purpose they will carry into the next chapter of their lives.
