In a country where up to 40% of food goes to waste, hunger continues to impact tens of millions. At the same time, the U.S. wastes enough food to feed every hungry person three times over. Like WPE, the Farmlink Project was created to tackle this problem.
Farmlink connects a disjointed global food system to feed people and fight climate change. Founded by college students in 2020, they delivered over 200 million meals and redirected over 109 million pounds of surplus fresh food in 2023 alone—and WPE is a grateful recipient of their bounty!
WPE is honored to collaborate with the Farmlink Project and other food rescue nonprofits across the state as part of the California Food Recovery Coalition (CFRC). This unified network empowers food recovery organizations to share resources and expertise, foster local partnerships, and amplify their collective civic power to fight food insecurity.
As a strong, collective voice for food recovery, the CFRC is uniquely positioned to advocate for impactful local and state legislation addressing food insecurity and the environmental degradation caused by food waste entering landfills. With a focus on combating hunger, reducing climate impacts, and sustainability, the CFRC is elevating efforts to tackle food insecurity and food waste on a larger scale.
By sharing data, aligning efforts, and uniting under a common purpose, these collaborations unlock greater efficiency and innovation across the food recovery landscape. Together, we are proving that scalable, community-driven solutions can transform how we address both hunger and the climate.
