This May, we remember and celebrate the life of Gary Conner, the first leader of White Pony Express and one of the most devoted and enthusiastic people ever to pass through our doors.
Gary was married to WPE’s Founder, Dr. Carol Weyland Conner, and he was able to take her extraordinary vision and put it into action — Showing up day after day, around the clock, delivering food to neighbors in need and demonstrating by his own example what it meant to serve with your whole self.
He brought boundless optimism and focused energy to every task, making everyone around him feel that the work was possible and worth doing.
We remember Gary as the one who always said yes.
That ‘yes’ became the heartbeat of our operation and culture. It set the standard. And it laid the foundation that tens of thousands of people now stand on — 2,000 volunteers, 140 recipient organizations, and the 135,000 neighbors we serve each year.
“He was the rocket that launched WPE. His life force was the fuel.”
We carry his spirit in every delivery, every act of service, and through every open door.
